Corrections and refutations
How to report a mistake, demand a refutation or a reply, and how long the newsroom takes to respond.
Correcting mistakes
If a story contains a factual error or a wrong name, figure or date, email the newsroom. Include a link to the story and tell us what you think should be corrected. Significant corrections are noted in the story itself.
Right to a refutation
Under the Law of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic “On Mass Media”, a person or organisation may demand that the newsroom refute information published by our outlet that is untrue and damages their honour, dignity or business reputation.
Right of reply
A person or organisation about whom information infringing their rights and legitimate interests has been published may demand that their reply be published by our outlet.
How to submit a demand
Send your demand to the newsroom by email or by post to: 38 Tekstilshchikov St., Tiraspol. Please include:
- your name or the name of your organisation and contact details for our reply;
- a link to the story, or its title and publication date;
- which information you believe is untrue and why;
- your proposed text of the refutation or reply (optional) and any supporting documents.
Deadlines
- The demand is entered in the newsroom’s register on the day it is received.
- The newsroom reviews the demand and informs the applicant of its decision within one month of receiving it.
- A refutation is published under the heading “Refutation”, and the original story links to it.
- A demand for a refutation may be submitted within one year of the information being published.
Refusal
A refutation may be refused in the cases provided for by law, for example if the demand is submitted more than one year after the information was published, if the information has already been refuted by our outlet, or if its accuracy has been confirmed by a final court decision. We inform the applicant of a refusal in writing, giving the reason. A refusal may be challenged in court.
