Moldova operates 13 stroke treatment centers, which receive hundreds of patients.

In 2025, 12,604 people sought examination for suspected stroke, marking an increase of nearly 43% compared to the previous year.

Daniela Efremova, head of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Institute of Emergency Medicine, reported that approximately 12,000 such patients were examined. According to her, ischemic strokes account for the largest share, with 9,000 registered cases, while the number of performed thrombolysis procedures exceeded 700.

Last year, 50 thrombolysis procedures were conducted. This indicates that only a relatively small portion of the total patient population manages to receive this procedure within the necessary timeframe.

Every year in the Republic of Moldova, between 10,000 and 12,000 people suffer a stroke, and approximately one-third of them die. A healthy lifestyle, physical activity, balanced nutrition, and stress management are important for reducing risk.

Who is affected
