Inclusive Solutions Center Helps Organizations of Persons with Disabilities Remove Barriers
From Rights to Action: How Organizations of Persons with Disabilities Are Transforming Daily Life

The Inclusive Solutions Center of the International Disability Alliance is implementing practical initiatives at the local community level worldwide. The organization combines the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with localized approaches to turn abstract rights into tangible improvements in the daily lives of people with disabilities.
A New Role for Civil Society Organizations
The Center provides specialized non-profit organizations with tools to act as rights navigators, accessibility monitors, and data collectors. At the same time, they are not expected to become large-scale social service providers. Their unique mandate is to identify systemic barriers, demonstrate effective mechanisms for removing them, and ensure the accountability of state institutions.
Impact on the Ground
Representatives of international and national networks confirm the effectiveness of this approach. Hoa Nguyen from the Asian Disability Forum notes that for years authorities ignored them, but the Alliance's capacity-building efforts for grassroots organizations led to their recognition as equal partners. In turn, Dorothy Nakato Mubesi from Uganda shares that she previously found existing programs alienating, but it was the leadership of people with disabilities themselves in creating innovations that helped remove barriers in her daily life.
Broad Scope of Initiatives
The organization's work spans multiple areas. Pere Cantanyas Gomez from the World Federation of the Deafblind points out that work is being carried out in assistive technology, accessibility, and independent living. In addition, attention is paid to health, education, employment, social protection, family life, and protection from violence. Separate programs are implemented in the context of humanitarian response, climate resilience, civic participation, culture, and sports.
Core Objective
The fundamental task of the Center is to transform declared rights into tangible changes. As Rosemary Hodkiewicz emphasizes, the ultimate goal is for people with disabilities to live with dignity, autonomy, and a sense of belonging to society, with equal opportunities and the necessary support. It is at the level of homes, schools, clinics, and workplaces that inclusion stops being a theory and becomes a reality.
Who is affected
Инструменты мониторинга и сбора данных для общественных организаций должны быть сами по себе инклюзивными и доступными. Локальный мониторинг доступности должен охватывать не только архитектуру, но и цифровые сервисы, информацию и коммуникацию.
