Deaf and Hard of Hearing Russians Can Work in Almost Any Field, Including Space and Medicine
Dmitry Alekseevskikh from the All-Russian Society of the Deaf stated that people with hearing impairments have access to virtually all professions, except those where a high level of hearing is critically important.

On the eve of the International Day of the Deaf, observed on September 27, a representative of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf (VOG) announced a significant expansion of professional opportunities for people with hearing impairments in Russia. According to Dmitry Alekseevskikh, head of the Science, Education, and Employment Department at VOG, the Soviet-era practice of strict "authorized lists" of professions for the deaf is definitively a thing of the past. Thanks to the society’s efforts, these restrictive limits have been removed. Today, people with hearing impairments have access to the vast majority of professions, except for a narrow range of fields where acute hearing is critically essential for safety or performing job duties. The range of professional opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing citizens of Russia today is very broad. Among them are successful entrepreneurs, engineers, programmers, and IT specialists. Many build careers in medicine, education, and social services. Moreover, members of this community are even in demand in the high-tech space industry.
