Rostec to Launch Mass Production of MRI-Compatible Pacemakers in 2027

This device supports the function of the right atrium or right ventricle

State Corporation Rostec is expanding its range of domestic implantable devices for treating cardiovascular diseases. The enterprise Cardioelectronica, part of the state corporation, plans to begin mass production of the single-chamber Apollo MRI pacemaker, compatible with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in 2027. This was reported by Rostec State Secretary Sergey Tsyb on the sidelines of the Bioprom forum.

“Our enterprise Cardioelectronica will also produce the MRI-compatible single-chamber implantable pacemaker Apollo MRI. We plan to start mass production in 2027,” Tsyb stated.

The key advantage of the device is its compatibility with MRI scanners. For patients with implanted pacemakers, this is critically important: previously, undergoing magnetic resonance imaging, which is one of the main diagnostic methods, was associated with significant risks for them or was entirely impossible.

Unlike two-chamber analogs, which affect both chambers of the heart simultaneously, the single-chamber pacemaker supports the function of either the right atrium or the right ventricle. Such a device is suitable for patients with certain types of cardiac rhythm disorders, where stimulation of only one heart chamber is necessary.

The new product will complement Rostec’s existing portfolio in cardioelectronics. To date, more than 200 two-chamber MRI-compatible pacemakers of domestic production have already been supplied to Russian clinics. These devices provide synchronous stimulation of both heart chambers and also allow patients to safely undergo MRI examinations.

The launch of Apollo MRI production in 2027 will be another step toward import substitution of high-tech medical equipment and expanding access to modern cardiological devices for Russian patients.

Who is affected
